Ryogoku Bear’s Creation Support Program
Although we are just two years into this experiment, we are moving forward with our plans to create ways to assist artists in the development of their work. Therefore we are now taking applications for our first creation support program. As we mainly serve the Japanese arts community here in Tokyo, the documents and application are in Japanese. Nevertheless, you can download them here. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. The deadline for applications is Saturday, July 15, 2017.

Ryogoku Bear’s First Residency:
Rafael Alvarez from Lisbon
For eight days across two weeks, Rafael Alvarez of Bodybuilders worked at Ryogoku Bear to develop his piece developed from his first impressions of Tokyo and his re-appropriation of the image of Hokusai’s iconic print, the Great Wave of Kanazawa. We are planning to have him back at Ryogoku Bear in October to bring the work closer to completion. Tentatively titled “In the Range of a Wave”, it will be performed in Paris and Lisbon, and we hope to have a work in progress preview at Ryogoku Bear! Keep in touch for updates!
